Zoko Add-Ons: Premium Flows, AI Agents, and Extra Costs

TL;DRZoko add-ons can change the real monthly cost of running WhatsApp for an ecommerce store. The base subscription is only one layer. Depending on how your team uses the product, the budget may also include premium flows, flow-step overages, AI-agent subscriptions, AI usage charges, Instagram access, additional inbox agents, conversation overages, calling overages, Meta fees, and separate OpenAI API costs.

That does not mean every Zoko workflow costs extra. Zoko's current pricing includes a set of essential ecommerce flows in every plan, including abandoned checkout recovery, WhatsApp review collection, COD confirmation, COD-to-prepaid, reorder reminders, product upsells, and order notifications. The useful question is which requirements stay inside the plan and which ones activate another billing meter.

This guide isolates those extra cost layers so Shopify and D2C teams can build a realistic budget before choosing a plan.

Quick Answer: What Zoko Add-Ons Should You Budget For?

Zoko's public pricing currently shows two clearly labeled add-on groups: premium flows and Zoko AI agents. Other costs are better described as platform fees or usage overages rather than optional modules.

Cost layerCurrent public structureWhen it affects the bill
Premium flows$5.99/month/flowYou publish a custom or advanced flow outside the included essential set

Included Features Are Not Add-Ons

Start by separating included functionality from optional spend. Zoko currently says all four plans include WhatsApp bulk broadcasts, catalog, chat widget, tags and segments, click-to-WhatsApp ads, auto-distribution, quick replies, pop-up campaigns, detailed analytics, API access, and webhooks.

Its pricing page also lists 11 essential ecommerce flows as free and included across plans. The published examples cover:

  • Abandoned checkout recovery.

  • WhatsApp review collection.

  • Double confirmation for COD orders.

  • COD-to-prepaid conversion.

  • Reorder reminder automation.

  • Product upsell automation.

  • Shipped, delivered, and cancelled order notifications.

If one of those included playbooks fits the job without customization, it should not be budgeted as a premium flow. Ask Zoko to demonstrate the exact included version, entry conditions, customization limits, message steps, and integrations before deciding that the free playbook covers your operating requirement.

Premium Zoko Flows: $5.99 Per Published Flow

Premium flows are the clearest Zoko add-on for Shopify automation. Zoko's live pricing page lists any custom-built flow at $5.99/month/flow. It gives examples such as CSAT collection, Judge.me review syncing, coupon delivery from pop-up campaigns, Instagram auto-replies, COD reconfirmation with automatic cancellation, and abandoned checkout recovery for third-party checkouts such as GoKwik or Razorpay.

The price is modular. A merchant using one premium flow pays for one. A team publishing five custom flows creates a $29.95/month premium-flow layer before any step overage, WhatsApp fee, or other add-on.

Zoko also says flow billing uses a daily rate when a flow is published for only part of a billing period. That can help with seasonal campaigns, but the team should still document which flows remain published and who owns the decision to turn them off.

Custom flow countPublished monthly flow cost
1$5.99
3$17.97
5$29.95
10$59.90

The cost is reasonable when the custom workflow creates enough revenue or saves enough operational work. The mistake is allowing small one-off flows to accumulate without reviewing whether they are still active or valuable.

Flow Steps Can Create a Usage Overage

Each action executed inside a Zoko flow counts as a step. Zoko's pricing example treats receiving an order, adding a Shopify tag, and sending a message as three steps when that flow runs once.

The current fair-use allowance is 500,000 steps per month across the account, followed by $0.0002 for each additional step. Unused steps do not carry over.

That rate looks small, but high-volume or highly branched workflows should still be modeled. An extra 100,000 steps would add $20; an extra 500,000 steps would add $100.

Monthly steps above allowanceOverage at $0.0002/step
50,000$10
100,000$20
250,000$50
500,000$100

Estimate steps using the actual workflow: number of monthly entries multiplied by the average executed actions per entry. Branches, retries, tagging, delays, integrations, and message actions can make a flow heavier than its visible message count suggests.

Zoko AI Add-Ons Have Three Cost Layers

Zoko AI is not one flat line item. Its public documentation describes three possible layers:

  1. A $24.99/month fixed subscription for each AI agent.

  2. A Zoko usage fee based on resolutions or order value.

  3. Separate OpenAI API usage billed through the merchant's connected OpenAI account.

The three published AI agents have different jobs and variable fees:

Zoko AI agentJobFixed costVariable cost shown publicly
GuruAnswer product, policy, and FAQ questions$24.99/month$0.09/resolution after the first 100 free resolutions
WismoAnswer order-tracking questions$24.99/month$0.09/resolution after the first 100 free resolutions
SelloTake and process WhatsApp orders$24.99/month3% of order value after the first 100 free orders

The separate OpenAI cost is easy to miss. Zoko requires the merchant to connect an OpenAI API key and keep funds in the OpenAI wallet. Those compute costs sit outside the Zoko base plan, AI-agent subscription, and Zoko usage fee.

Before activating an AI agent, define the outcome. Guru should reduce repetitive support work. Wismo should deflect order-status tickets. Sello should create enough incremental contribution margin to justify the percentage-of-order-value charge. If the team cannot measure the relevant outcome, it cannot decide whether the add-on is working.

The live documentation states the first 100 resolutions or orders are free, but buyers should confirm the reset period and exact counting rules during a demo.

Instagram, Agents, Conversations, and Calling

Not every extra cost is labeled an add-on. Several plan-dependent charges can still change the effective monthly bill.

Instagram

Zoko currently lists Facebook as free, Instagram at $9.99/month, and WhatsApp according to Meta's rate card. A WhatsApp-only Shopify team can exclude Instagram. An omnichannel support or sales team should include it.

Additional Agents

The current plan cards show Plus with 5 agents and $15/additional agent, Elite with 10 and $12/additional agent, and Max with 30 and $9/additional agent. Starter says businesses can add as many agents as they like for free.

The same pricing page also says businesses needing more than 30 agents should contact Zoko for an enterprise plan. Because those statements can affect team budgeting, confirm the applicable agent rule for the plan and account size before signing.

Conversation Markup and Overage

Zoko's internal conversation charge is separate from Meta's WhatsApp rate card. Starter currently shows $0.015 markup on all conversations. Plus includes 5,000 no-markup conversations before $0.00199/conversation; Elite includes 100,000 before $0.00099; Max includes 5 million before $0.00049.

Do not call every one of these charges a Meta fee. The Zoko plan's conversation economics and Meta's WhatsApp charges are separate layers.

WhatsApp Calling

Current plans include calling minutes and then charge per-minute overage. Starter includes 500 minutes and lists $0.005/minute after that; Plus includes 1,000 and lists $0.004; Elite includes 2,000 and lists $0.003; Max includes 4,000 and lists $0.002.

Calling may be irrelevant for an automation-first merchant. It matters when sales or support agents routinely move conversations into voice calls.

Three Example Zoko Budgets

Examples make the add-on model easier to see. These are illustrations, not quotes, and exclude Meta fees, taxes, payment processing, OpenAI usage, and any plan overages not specified.

Example 1: Included Retention Flows Only

A merchant on Plus uses only included abandoned checkout, COD, review, and order-notification flows. It does not activate Instagram or AI and stays within plan allowances.

ItemMonthly amount
Plus plan$79.99
Premium flow add-ons$0
AI add-ons$0
Instagram$0
Subtotal before Meta fees$79.99

This is why it would be unfair to describe every Zoko automation as an add-on.

Example 2: Custom Automation Stack

A Plus merchant publishes three premium flows and adds Instagram.

ItemMonthly amount
Plus plan$79.99
Three premium flows$17.97
Instagram$9.99
Subtotal before Meta fees and overages$107.95

Example 3: Custom Flows and Two AI Agents

A Plus merchant publishes two premium flows, adds Instagram, and activates Guru plus Wismo.

ItemMonthly amount
Plus plan$79.99
Two premium flows$11.98
Guru subscription$24.99
Wismo subscription$24.99
Instagram$9.99
Subtotal before Meta, AI usage, OpenAI, and overages$151.94

The third example can still be economically sound if the AI agents deflect enough work. The point is to compare the complete stack with the measurable value it creates.

Zoko Add-Ons vs Retentionly's Pricing Model

Zoko's modular pricing can make sense for a brand that wants to assemble a broad WhatsApp commerce system. The store can add custom flows, AI specialists, Instagram, more agents, and calling capacity as those needs emerge.

Retentionly takes a more focused Shopify retention approach:

Retentionly planPriceCore fit
Basic$24/monthEssential Shopify WhatsApp automations
Growth$49/monthAdvanced automations, broadcasts, inbox, and advanced analytics
Scale$99/monthMulti-agent CRM inbox, assignment, notes, history, and dedicated account management

Retentionly does not add a markup to Meta message fees, does not charge extra for added automations, and does not charge per chat. That can make the budget easier to forecast when the main job is abandoned checkout recovery, COD confirmation, order updates, review requests, winback, upsells, and repeat purchase.

Which Zoko Add-Ons Are Worth Paying For?

The answer depends on the operating job.

Premium flows are worth considering when an included playbook cannot handle a required checkout, integration, branching, cancellation, or customer-feedback workflow. AI agents are worth considering when FAQ, tracking, or sales volume is large enough to create measurable labor savings or incremental margin. Instagram is worth adding when the team genuinely manages customer conversations there. Extra agent capacity matters when manual conversation ownership is central to sales or support.

An add-on is harder to justify when it duplicates an included flow, serves a rare edge case, remains published after a campaign ends, or cannot be connected to revenue, support deflection, saved time, or customer experience.

A Zoko Add-On Audit Checklist

Before choosing or renewing Zoko, create one monthly cost sheet with these questions:

QuestionDecision evidence
Which plan is required?Conversation volume, calling, agents, and feature needs
Which essential flows are included?Live demo of the exact flow and its limits
Which custom flows must be premium?Named workflow, owner, monthly value, and published duration
How many steps will execute?Monthly entries multiplied by average executed actions
Which AI agents will be active?Support volume, order volume, resolution rate, and margin impact
What does AI compute cost separately?OpenAI usage estimate and wallet ownership
Is Instagram required?Real conversation volume and team ownership
How many agents need access?Current headcount, growth plan, and applicable overage rule
Will conversations or calls exceed allowances?Last 90 days of volume plus growth estimate
What does Meta charge?Recipient markets, message categories, and current rate card

Review the sheet every quarter. Optional modules that were sensible during launch can become redundant, and a plan upgrade can sometimes change the economics of overages.

When Zoko's Add-On Model Is a Good Fit

Zoko is a strong fit when WhatsApp is a broad commerce and operations channel. A team using catalog selling, support, sales conversations, custom integrations, AI assistance, multiple channels, and high-volume workflows may value the ability to assemble those capabilities inside one platform.

The modular structure also lets a merchant start with included flows and add advanced capabilities only when there is a clear business case. That is a benefit when the team actively manages the stack.

When Retentionly Is the Simpler Alternative

Retentionly is the simpler fit when the team primarily wants Shopify retention workflows rather than a broad WhatsApp commerce platform.

If the first priorities are recovering abandoned checkouts, confirming COD orders, sending order updates, collecting reviews, winning back customers, and driving repeat purchases, included automation economics may matter more than optional AI, Instagram, catalog, or calling layers.

Install Free on Shopify and start with the workflows that can prove revenue or operational value before expanding the WhatsApp stack.
